Crispy Fish Fry (Dry)

Ingredients

For the Fish Fry:

  • Fish (Pomfret, King Fish, Surmai, Rohu, or Basa) – 500g (cleaned and cut into fillets or medium pieces)
  • Ready-Made Fish Fry Masala – 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
  • Red Chili Powder – ½ tsp (optional for extra spice)
  • Salt – To taste
  • Lemon Juice – 1 tbsp
  • Ginger-Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
  • Rice Flour or Rava (Semolina) – 2 tbsp (for extra crispiness)
  • Gram Flour (Besan) or Corn Flour – 1 tbsp (for binding)
  • Water – As needed (to make a thick paste)
  • Oil – For shallow or deep frying

Instructions

For Fish Fry :

  1. Prepare the Marinade:
  • In a bowl, mix Fish Fry Masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, lemon juice, and ginger-garlic paste.
  • Add a little water to make a thick paste.
  • Apply the marinade evenly to all fish pieces.
  1. Rest & Coat the Fish:
  • Let the fish marinate for at least 30 minutes (longer for better flavor).
  • Just before frying, lightly coat the fish in rice flour or semolina + besan for extra crispiness.
  1. Fry the Fish:
  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Shallow fry or deep fry the fish pieces for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Drain excess oil on a paper towel.
  1. Serve & Garnish:
      • Garnish with onion rings, lemon wedges, and chopped coriander leaves.
      • Serve hot with green chutney or garlic chutney.

  • Onion Rings – 1 cup
  • Lemon Wedges – 4 pieces
  • Fresh Coriander Leaves – 2 tbsp (chopped)
  • Green Chutney – Optional

Essential Tips

  • For best taste, use fresh fish. Firm fish like King Fish (Surmai), Pomfret, or Rohu work best.
  • For extra crispiness, use a mix of semolina (rava) and rice flour.
  • Marinate longer (up to 2 hours) for deeper flavors.
  • For a healthier option, air-fry or bake the fish at 200°C for 15-20 minutes.
  • If deep frying, ensure oil is hot enough to prevent the fish from absorbing too much oil.
